With The World Cup Over, Some Argentine Fans Have Refused To Go Back Home

About 160, 000 Argentines trooped into Brazil to watch the world cup matches live, but not all have been able to go back home. Some Argentines can still be seen in Brazil with no immediate plans to go home. Some of them claim they are broke and cannot afford to go back home two weeks after their team was beaten by the German team on July 13.

Some of these fans have been camping out in different locations in Brazil like the Sambadrome Carnival Parade Grounds in Rio De Janairo. Some of them say Brazil is amazing and they have no plans to go back home. These people lunch at soup chickens while searching for some odd jobs to do to enable them replenish their fast dwindling financial reserves.

According to local media reports, tens of thousands of Argentines are still in Brazil hunting for jobs that may not be in existence. Most of them are young and males in their early twenties while less than a third are females.

Brazilian Police has however refused to respond to emails and telephone requests to confirm the actual figure of Argentines who stayed back after the world cup. Officials are worried about having thousands of foreigners juggling at intersections for handouts, selling handicrafts, or relying on the social services the government provides for the large population of poor Brazilian citizens.

Brazil once had a gangbuster economy which has slowed in recent years, but still better than what obtainable in crisis-riddled Argentina, which has been is reported to have one of the highest inflation rates in the entire world and a shortage of dollars.

According to authorities in the Rio’s tourism promotion agency, it seems there were serious lapses with the way Brazil’s land border with Argentina was controlled all through the duration of the tournament.

The local media has reported extensively on this issue. According O Globo, one of Rio’s most popular dailies, “In other places in the world, people do not enter a country without officially stating the duration of their visit, what resources they have for their sustenance and their health insurance status. None of these were done”.

Argentines do not require any visa or passport to enter Brazil. A legit government ID card guarantees any Argentine entrance into Brazil.

The Sambadrome has been converted into a makeshift camp to help accommodate the large number of Argentines who came in by car, motorhome and bus during the world cup. The camp was however closed last week, and the last set of campers were evicted. According to media reports, the Argentine Consular officials came around to offer transportation and cash help to enable them go back home, but some of the campers were visibly not interested in such aids.

The stragglers are mostly adorned in T-shirts, ragged shorts and flip-flops, bathing frequently at public water fountains or some outdoor showers at the beach.

Brazil and Argentine harbor a deep rivalry over soccer, there were several instances of fights between fans from the two neighboring nations in Rio during the world cup, but the prolonged stay of these Argentines hasn’t ruffled any Brazilian feathers yet.

Microsoft Moves Yammer Into Office 365 As Co-Founder Departs.

David Sacks, co-founder of the social-networking vendor, announces departure on Twitter.

Microsoft acquired the enterprise social-networking vendor Yammer about two years ago for $1.2 billion, ever since; they have allowed Yammer to continue independent operations. But the management of Microsoft may have decided to tighten its grasp on the Yammer outfit based in San Francisco. David Sacks, The Co-founder of Yammer on July 24 made an announcement on his twitter page about his intention to leave Microsoft and Yammer. He thanked both his current and former YamFamily for the six years they have stood by him and Microsoft for the last two years. He tweeted he was looking forward to new adventures. Yammer worked as PayPal’s chief operating officer before he founded and headed Yammer as its Chief Executive Officer.

Since it acquired Yammer, Microsoft has integrated all Yammer’s enterprise social features with some of its own products and services, which includes Office 365 and SharePoint. Microsoft has removed a number of pages from Yammer’s playbook, as regards to ways to iterate and update on its technologies more rapidly. Microsoft created Yammer North team in Redmond about a year ago to bring about coordination between the two companies, to enable the Yammer team master the Yammer thinking and processes easily. But Microsoft has now decided to move Yammer into the Office 365 and outlook development team, which has Microsoft vice president, Rajesh Jha as head of operations. According to reliable sources, the San Francisco Yammer engineering team will be headed by a lead from Jha’s team, Kristian Andaker.

When asked what was happening to Yammer, some Microsoft officials had the following to say:

Office 365 has Yammer as one of its most integral parts which is used by over 500, 000 companies to increase their daily job performance and the ease with which they get things done. Since Microsoft acquired Yammer two years ago, we have worked together to make the integrated benefits of enterprise social media available to all our Office 365 customers. Having seen the exciting Yammer experience extend to all Office 365 customers, which gives them new ways to work together, we believe it is time to bring our Outlook and Office 365 shared teams to merge with the Yammer organization as the next reasonable step for the delivery of an integrated set of social, collaboration and experiences that help organizations work like a very organized network. We are grateful to David for all his contributions and commitment to both Microsoft and Yammer and wish him well in all his future strides. We do hope our customers find more fulfillment using our improved products and services.

Global Warming: Who Will Do The Dishes?

The decisions we make today and the actions we take are some of the problems that will affect future generations. Whether we turn towards sustainable development or keep exploiting our environment, the environmental legacy we will pass to future generations will depend on it. Future environmental issues will be determined by ethical decision or lack of it. The impact of global warming and climate change can make in a nation’s environment are varied in intensities. For instance, a nation like India can be hit by very severe drought while Antarctica can turn into the very next Amazon Basin. The unpredictability of the where and how climate change happens is quite high. The precautionary measures we take to avert such impacts are the only predictable thing when it comes to environmental problems like global warming.

The level of development of any nation plays major role in determining the degree of precautionary measures to be taken. For a very developed country, enforcing environmental policies is easier than what is obtainable in developing and underdeveloped nations. The existing policies in developed nations encompass all environmental well-being bearing individual standard of living in mind. In a country like Canada, all government agencies are required to complete an environmental cost benefit analysis before embarking on a project. This method is used by the Canadian government to verify the major pros and cons of all future projects.
In unique countries such as India, where cultures and languages vary every few kilometers, it is required that the government satisfies some local needs to help the implementation of any decisions. Working as an intern for a government agency, The City and Industrial Development Corporation of New Bombay, I saw several instances where Morchas’ or political bodies or unions caused serious havocs when their needs are not met. In order to tackle environmental problems in development effectively, there has to be good public support and a very clear sense of ethics.

Having a higher sense of ethical duty towards development, developed nations can help create a balance to lower the sense of ethical duty exhibited by developing and underdeveloped nations. It is important that these developed nations step up to the challenge of the environmental need of the hour, as developing and underdeveloped nations will require future guidance to combat climate change. The story of dirty dishes easily comes to mind when discussing responsibility in this global warming problem; at some point last year, we had some dirty dishes in the sink.

Like every other young person, I’m not an exception when it comes to procrastination. The dishes sat there in the sink till one of us succumbed to our guilty conscience and cleaned them up. Once one of us started on the dishes, everyone else wanted to help get them cleaned up. No one bothered about who had left the dishes in the sink for that long, we were all bothered about the irritating and sickening odor they will create and the possible inversion of rats. In a similar way, someone ought to step up and start cleaning the mess in our beautiful planet. We need to give in to our guilty conscience before the situation worsens and goes beyond remedy. Tackling the problem of global warming is easier for developed nations than it is for developing and underdeveloped nations due to the inability of these other nations to fulfill the basic water requirements.

Facebook Continues Moneymaking Trend: Profits Surge As Mobile Business Thrives.

It seems Facebook is leading in the most current trends that rock the social media world right now: how to make money selling mobile ads.

What advantage does Facebook have? As we all know, the company has reams of data which make the ads they show on users mobile devices fit the specific needs and preferences of the users. They run such massive services that even after several years in existence; almost a billion web users make use of it daily. More of these people log in using their mobile devices.

The leap in the number f mobile users used to give Facebook lots of concern. It was a major concern when it decided to make their first public offer in 2012. This is because many tech and media companies have discovered that it is make money from small mobile ads than from desktop ads.

Such concerns inspired Facebook to focus on building its mobile ads advantage in 2012, an area long dominated by Google. In early 2012, Facebook couldn’t boast of any mobile ad revenue. By the end of that same year, it accounted for about 5.4% of the global mobile ad market, according to eMarketer, an ad analysis firm. And it has grown consistently.

According to analysts, it will take about 21.7 % of all mobile ad spending this year.

Facebook has made more significant inroads into the mobile ad market, and now makes most of its thoughts its smartphones and tablets ads. It now pays attention to how best to reach more people even when they are offline. Early this month, they announced that they have made significant progress in driving people directly from Facebook apps to other apps and back to Facebook. Facebook has equally started incorporating relevant information from other sites their users visit outside their network into their ad platform. Increasing their large collection of data as well as tailoring ads more carefully to users. The company has found itself in troubled waters in the past in pursuit of that data. They recently ran into some problems with users when researchers revealed that they had conducted mood experiment on users.

But this has in no way affected the number of users that sign up with the social media daily. According to Facebook, their users have risen to a massive 1.32 billion users who log in at least once every month from different parts of the world. It has equally been reported that many of the users have made Facebook a daily habit while some are so addicted that they can’t let an hour go by without visiting the Facebook website. About 829 million people visit the social media site daily, about 19% of last year’s statistics.
