Organizers hope for home run with Golden Bears Bash!
By MELISSA DILLEY
Upper Arlington Education Foundation supporters will be singing Take Me out to the Golden Bear Bash as the fifth annual fundraising event is held for the first time at Huntington Park, Sept. 4.
The Golden Bear Bash! is the foundation's signature event that raised almost $90,000 last year to support the districts students and buildings. The money raised goes into the non-profit's general fund, and is used to fund scholarships, purchase new classroom equipment and technology and support athletics and other extracurricular activities.
"The Golden Bear Bash! has been the stepping stone to move us out of one level to a-whole-other level where we can really make a difference and really contribute to a lot of various programs," said Robin Comfort, UAEF member, Bash! contributor and school board vice president.
The baseball-themed night begins at 7 p.m. and includes dinner and drinks, silent and live auctions, live music and dancing. Casual evening wear is the requested attire.

High school Principal Kip Greenhill and his wife Katy were selected to be honorary chairmen of the event.
Joanie Dugger, executive director of UAEF, said Greenhill was chosen as chairman because his 17-year reign as the longest-serving principal at UAHS will end this spring. Kip was also an obvious choice because of how collaboratively he and the high school has partnered with UAEF to benefit students, she said in a press release.
In the past, UAEF and the high school have worked together to find funding for a pilot math calculator program, stage production lighting and a student guidebook.
UAEF plans to reach a fundraising high this year to contribute to even more district endeavors. Last year that was with the help of 500 attendees and this year the organization is hoping for 600. Advanced ticket sales can account for almost $70,000 so far toward this year's fundraising tally.
Funds will be raised with high-end live and silent auction items as well.
Live auction items include Ohio State University football tickets, catered dinners, landscape work and one-week vacations in Massachusetts, North Carolina and Montana.
Gift certificates and baskets, salon and spa experiences and tickets to sporting events make up most of the almost 70 silent auction items that will be available to bidders.
"It's kind of fun to see the energy when people are bidding against each other on items, especially when you know it's for the school and it's a good cause," Comfort said.
Tickets for the event must be reserved by Friday, Aug. 26.
Six ticket levels are available beginning with a $50 basic ticket for the event and reaching all the way to an all-inclusive $5,000 ticket that reserves a table for 10, name on the invitation, prominent signage at the event and a VIP cocktail reception.
