Letter: 'Historic' label appropriate
To the Editor:
In response to the Letter to the Editor by Bob Warne entitled, "Call it 'Old Dublin,' not 'Historic Dublin,' please," I will counter with three reasons why the "historic" label is appropriate.
First of all, I'm reminded by my friends at the Dublin Village Tavern that history, like beauty, is in the eye of the beerholder.
I happen to have a book in my possession that presents the founding families of Dublin by outlining their contributions to the community.

I like to think that what they accomplished, carving out their little pocket of civilization in the wilderness, was a monumental task as evidenced by their worn faces and is worthy of my acknowledgement.
Calling it Historic Dublin is my way of honoring their achievement.
Secondly, if Ohio is said to be the "Heart of It All" and Dublin is the "Heart of Ohio" that makes Downtown Dublin the proverbial Center of the Universe.
That alone might qualify for an historic achievement all by itself.
Lastly, the plaque on my office building says that this structure is on the "National Register of Historic Places."
I just know reaching out to Washington D.C. to get the plaque changed to "National Register of Old Places" would be time consuming on my part and terribly expensive on theirs.
Let's face it; Dublin is a great place to be.
We have everything anyone could ever want, other than maybe a beach vacation, and if you give the good folks at the Dublin Convention and Visitors Bureau a little time to work on that, maybe they can think of something.
At the end of the day, I encourage everyone to visit Historic Dublin.
We have lots of old stuff for you to see.
