Michael Jackson has been dead for five years, but that has not stopped James Safechuck from filing a claim against him for sexual abuse. Safechuck says Michael Jackson molested him. He said the abuse started in Michael Jackson’s home where his parents took him. His first contact with Michael Jackson was when he appeared in the iconic Pepsi commercial when he was 10 years old. He says the abuse escalated when he joined Michael on his Paris tour. Safechuck also went on several all-expense trips with Michael in the United States.
Safechuck contends that the first time that Michael touched him inappropriately was during the “Bad” tour when Michael had Safechuck join him at the Hotel de Crillon in Paris. He contends that Michael gave him jewelry as a reward for the sexual favors. He says that Michael taught him code words to use when they had sex so that others could not figure it out.
Michael Jackson’s estate issued a statement that said in part, “Mr. Safechuck’s request to file a late claim against the Jackson Estate so he can recover money from Michael’s beneficiary will hopefully be rejected. This is a person that made his claim five years after Michael died, more than 20 years after the incidents supposedly happened and has given sworn testimony that Michael never did anything inappropriate to him.”
In his statement, Safechuck says he was the first child to stay at the Neverland Ranch. He said Michael was so concerned about being caught that he installed chimes in the bedroom hallway to warn him whenever someone approached. Safechuck contends that Michael had a secret room in his bedroom where Michael expected Safechuck to perform the sexual activities.
In the court filings, he says the sexual encounters occurred hundreds of times in various locations. He contends that Jackson lost interest in him when he reached puberty. He says that Michael took the time to separate from him gradually, turning his interest to a younger boy named Brett. He says that even after he was no longer interested, that Michael kept supporting him financially. He says that Michael also introduced him to several people in Hollywood that might have been able to use his talent.
He says that his sexual abuse with Michael Jackson has left him permanently scarred. He says he still suffers from panic attacks because of the abuse.
